“Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself, it’s what you do for others.” – Danny Thomas

There has been a lot of talk lately about Lonzo Ball’s sneakers that recently went on the market for over $400. Some people are all for the hustle but many others are upset about the high cost. Many that support the athlete began raising the question of why we don’t support our own (black people) as much as we support others.

If it’s ok to drop $300 on Gucci flipflops why can’t you spend $30 on a book written by your neighbor or $40 on a shirt designed by a friend? I know I am in the process of becoming a professional photographer and I am also writing books and looking into fitness apparel and it makes me skeptical about who would actually support me.

I wanted to use this post to bring light to some of my friends and families business and hope to get them some exposure. Last year some time I did a class assignment where I made a mini documentary on a college friend named Danielle who is based out of NY. She recently started her own company Danny D’s Delicacies where she makes homemade desserts and drinks.

You can find out more about here business here or by clicking the link above for her Facebook page. Another friend I made while living in Columbus, Georgia is a freelance photographer and has an amazing eye. Damaris has been working on her craft for years now and you can check out her work on her Facebook Page.

Sil Caprice Jones is a free spirit I met while stationed overseas in South Korea. She is all about natural vibes and holistic healing. You can check out more on her website.

If you are looking for a life coach or someone to help point you in the right direction hit up my friend Francesca Dorvil. She is a social worker turned life coach who recently started her own business. I Am Forever Evolving is here to help you get the life back that you have always wanted.

My cousin and someone I look up to Jackie Sylvain started and online women’s empowerment group, Purpose Driven Women. This online group connects women from all over the world and allows them to just be whoever they want to be. There is support, positive feedback and monthly meetups to help everyone stay involved. Join I promise you won’t regret it.
