#Day20- Family….Not Just Blood

“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life.”- Richard Bach

I thank God for some of the people I have come across in my life. My family those related to me by blood are amazing in their own way but those who don’t share a shred of my DNA are my strength.

I know that sounds weird but it’s the truth. The way I look at it, your blood family have to love you and support you (although many don’t) while others are free to tell you that you suck at life without worrying about hurting your feelings.

Those who I consider my family are supportive, truthful, reliable and sometimes they get on my last nerves but they are mine. They sometimes are my biggest critics but they are also my biggest supporters. They call just to say hello, check on my well being, support my dreams and tell me when I need to get my act together.

I don’t have many family like this but those that I do have I will forever be thankful for. That whole “no new friends” saying is catchy but it’s irrelevant in my case. Some of my new friends are the closest family figures I have and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Often times we find ourselves hoping to following our minds rather than our hearts and we soon realize it's not the case. we get so caught up in our feelings and allow the stream of tears to sway us into making short term decisions that has long term effects. Sometimes we need to take a step back from ourselves and look at things from the outside. Ask ourselves is it worth it? Will I be ok with my decision tomorrow? Once we decide that it is worth losing we need to breathe in release and let go! No looking back, no regrets, just high hopes for the future, less frowns and more smiles. My name is Jordean Matthews and I am a native of Pleasantville, NJ. This blog showcases all things that are me. My life, my talents, my thoughts, my family. It truly displays all the pieces of me.
